Another reason to cheer the capital city, and perhaps jeer. After a whirlwind Halloween weekend at Ottawa Fashion Week I was left with mixed feelings. The setting and effort that went into producing the fourth Ottawa Fashion Week was top notch - a real classy event! In that regard it could challenge other big city fashion weeks. In regards to the fashion, it was, for the most part, pretty safe - all great ready-to-wear items, but that showman quality I look for in fashion was almost absent. I love fashion shows for their creativity, the show, the quality, and the theatre that goes along with it. However, one designer really made a stir for me. Adrian Wu's collection was dramatic, haunting, and conceptually intriguing. He was a photographer's nightmare: the lighting was turned down for effect making all of us struggle by balancing our flashes with everyone else. However, some shots made it through and I couldn't be happier. Wu, seems young in demeanor and through his unedited press kit, however, his vision is mature and was a pleasure to photograph.
Disregard the non-believers Ottawa fashion thrives - with the amount of media, wonderfully dressed attendees, and designers its hard not to see it. Kudos to the organizers of OFW 2010 - it was a fabulous weekend. Ottawa designers, the bar has been raised - let's see what you've got!

Its a bit sad, and I guess just a matter the aging process, that only approximately 4 WWI veterans are still alive (mind you these men are 110 years old). The WWII , Korean war, Gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans are still here and kicking. Every year there is always a 2 minute moment of silence to honour the fallen from WWI, yet we loose touch with that time in history.
This year, for Remembrance Day, Royale Boutique Photography is offering a special package for new and old veterans and their friends and family to sit for a traditional 1940s style portrait session. Although taken by digital means, the set design, lighting, and black and white style are reminiscent of a time when official portraiture was commonplace.

Phew! Its been a long week of preparations, but after the amazing sale the studio was to get ready for a few changes.
Fist off, the vintage clothing is now exclusively available online at www.etsy.com/shop/RoyaleBoutique. Check back often - you will find new additions, as well as the debut of Royale's first lookbook.
Secondly, with all this spring cleaning Royale has more room. The doors were opened to Danger Cave Media - filmmakers. Check them out at http://dangercavemedia.com/ . Make no mistake Royale is still rocking it at the 103 Fourth Studio for meetings and photo shoots. However, now there is more creative energy in the air. I am very excited to welcome Nick and Kyle from Danger Cave Media to the roster here.
With all this change the hours of operation will have to keep up. Royale Boutique will not be open from Tuesday-Saturday. Although regular office hours are in effect meetings, photoshoot and viewings are now by appointment only.
So many changes and new offers check back soon as more great announcements will be made here.
